Vance Astro, also known as Major Victory, is a Marvel Comics character who first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #18 (January 1969).
Vance was born in Saugerties, New York, in the 20th century. He volunteered for Project: Starjump in 1988, becoming an astronaut for the first interstellar mission launched from Earth. To survive the journey to Alpha Centauri, he was placed in suspended animation in a copper alloy suit.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, his ship traveled much faster than anticipated, arriving at Alpha Centauri in a fraction of the time expected. There, he encountered the original Guardians of the Galaxy and eventually joined their ranks.
Vance possesses psionic powers, including telekinesis and telepathy, which developed as a side effect of his long suspended animation. The copper suit he wears helps to control these powers. He also carries Captain America's shield, a symbol of his admiration for the superhero.
